Training prog on village health and sanitation committee

 DIBRUGARH, Jan 19 – A two-day training programme was organised in collaboration with NRHM and UNICEF on January 11 and 12 at Swahid Bhavan, Lakhimpur for the volunteers of Nawa Bihan Samaj (NBS) for monitoring the training programme on Village Health and Sanitation Committee (VHSC) in the village level formed by National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Assam.

The training programme was facilitated by Dr Deepak Kar, programme executive NRHM, Assam. There were altogether 28 participants for the programme selected from different development blocks of Lakhimpur. The subjects covered in the programme were NRHM, maternity health, child health, family planning, Total Sanitation Campaign and hygiene. As of now some 1036 VHSCs, have been formed in the district of Lakhimpur and the committee members are being trained by Mother NGO and the Field NGO’s of Lakhimpur. From the total 1036 VHSCs, 30 per cent will be monitored by Nawa Bihan Samaj in the district.

The secretary of Nawa Bihan Samaj, Godfrey Hereh stressed and hoped that the rural poor will benefit immensely if worked as a team with dedication and commitment. The monitoring of VHSC would start from the third week of January by the volunteers, a press release stated.
