Security beefed up in Manipur ahead of Republic Day

 IMPHAL, Jan 17 Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, the state administration has taken up stringent security measures in Manipur, particularly in the valley districts and along the highways.

Like every year, Republuc Day will be observed in the state capital Imphal and in all the district headquarters.

As a pre-emptive move to thwart any untoward incidents, security forces have been put on alert at vital installations and strategic points.

Manipur is one of the states where rebel groups often show up with their activities to make their presence felt.

Some counter-insurgency operations have also been carried in this connection by the security forces in the valley areas.

Frisking activities by the security forces mostly the state police force have been intensified in the run-up to the Republic Day celebrations in the state.

Mention may be made that 39 permanent frisking/checking pickets at strategic points in greater Imphal areas had been opened some time back to contain any disruptive design.

Meanwhile, elaborate preparations are being made by the state government for celebration of Republic Day in the state where the main function will be held at 1st Manipur Rifles ground in Imphal.

State police department has been entrusted with organising march-past contingents.

State education department (schools) has been asked to arrange six contingents from schools located in and around Imphal area. The department has also been asked to arrange incentives to the participating institutions in the view of the prevailing law-and-order situation to ensure maximum participation of contingents.
