Better amenities at Nagaon rly station demanded

 NAGAON, Jan 17 The Nagaon District Trinamul Congress Committee submitted a memorandum to the Chairman, Railway Safety, recently. The Trinamul Congress committee demanded raising the height of platform of Nagaon Railway Sation. It is felt that the present platform is much lower from the steps of Rail compartments and as a result, elderly people, women and children face difficulties in boarding and getting down from trains.

The party also demanded construction of more passenger sheds at Nagaon station platform, renovation of approach roads to the station, construction of flyovers at different points like near BP Civil Hospital, Aminpatty, Teliapatty Hazgaon Railway crossing and at Seuchua.

The memorandum also demanded of two direct trains from Nagaon One to Howrah and the other to New Delhi.

The memorandum was signed by its vice-president, Dhananjoy Chakravarty and general secretary Nur Hussain.

College week: The annual college week of ADP College, Nagaon was held from December 26 to 30.

Principal Dr SU Ahmed unfurled the college flag on the inaugural day.

The open meeting was held on December 30 where two retired principals of the college Dr Narayan Ch Barman and Sahajananda Ojha were chief guest and honourable guest respectively. Both guests recalled their association with ADP College and expressed hope that the College would in future rank number one in the State.

Prizes were also distributed among the students who won in different competitions arranged during the college week. A cultural function was also arranged during the college week.

Agri aid distributed: To distribute agriculture implements under National Food Security Mission as well as to distribute blankets, threads, etc., a function was held at Lorimukh under Samaguri PS on January 30.

Attending the function, Forest and tourism Minister Rockybul Hussain thanked the farmers for producing high-yielding varieties of paddy with improved scientific materials such as Sri system of cultivation under National Food Security Mision. The Minister expected that Nagaon district would have a surplus production of 1,73,508 tonne of paddy. He advised district administration to make arrangements for procuring their product by FCI at reasonable price.

Hussian distributed, among other things, 20 knap sack sprayers, 72 electrict pumps (2HP), 32 seed storing bins, 20 shallow tubewells boring material and hybrid rice seeds. He visited the potato cultivation field under Technology Mission. Farmers requested the minister for constructing a cold storage there.
