Biennial session of Kampur Lekhika Samaroh Samity held Correspondent KAMPUR, Jan 17 – The Kampur branch of Assam Lekhika Samaroh Samity celebrated its biennial session on January 10 at the local Sahitya Sabha Bhawan amidst great enthusiasm and in presence of a large number of members of the Lekhika Samaroh Samity, besides distinguished guests and local public.
The open session held on the occasion under the presidentship of Labanya Laskar, retired inspector of schools and president of Kampur Lekhika Samaroh Samity was attended by a number of literary luminaries and distinguished guests including Abha Bora, president, Nagaon District Lekhika Samaroh Samity and vice president of All Assam Lekhika Samaroh Samity, Manju Laskar lecturer, Nagaon Girls College and a litterateur and a host of others.
Abha Bora in her speech lauded the untiring efforts of the members of Kampur Lekhika Samaroh in popularising its activities in empowering and enlightening the womenfolk of Kampur area. Literary discussions often held in the meetings of Lekhika Samaroh would definitely go a long way in spreading knowledge and providing recreations to the women who had to bear the brunt of household chores almost all the time, Bora added.
Manju Laskar in her brief speech appealed to the women to evince interest in literary works for their all-round development and to get respite from all sorts of mundane affairs. Dhiren Kakati, a retired headmaster and a poet attended the meeting as appointed speaker who also praised the members of Kampur Lekhika Samaroh for their effort to bring about a literary atmosphere amongst the women of Kampur area.
Janagabharu, the biennial journal of Kampur Lekhika Samaroh was released by Harideb Mahanta, a retired subject teacher and a well known litterateur.
Renu Borkakati, general secretary of Kampur Lekhika Samaroh Samity explained the objective of the meeting and welcomed the guests.
Earlier in the morning the day-long programme began with the hoisting of the flag of Lekhika Samaroh by Labanya Laskar in presence of the member and guests. An attractive cultural programme was also held to mark the occasion.
