Foggy condition hits railway service
Staff Reporter
GUWAHATI, Jan 17 – Most of the trains entering Assam from North India are running late due to hazardous fog conditions in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Consequently, some trains departing the state have also been affected.

“Most of the trains have been affected and are arriving late in Assam, and many of the trains leaving Assam have been running late in stretches of UP and Bihar due to low visibility conditions,” an official at NFR’s central control at Guwahati told this newspaper.

The prevailing situation in several stations of NFR is such that waiting rooms are full and passenger amenities have come under increased pressure. Some passengers have complained that the railway authorities are not providing updated information about the status of trains, which has led to their travel woes. Sources say that the problem is going to persist as long as foul weather continues in north India as trains have been asked to adhere to strict speed limits as a safety concern.
