AGP-AUDF alliance
Sir, – This has reference to the letter ‘Unholy alliance’ by Krishna K Baruah (AT, December 10). AUDF is a regional party of Assam with secularism as its base and AGP is also a secular regional party and as such there is no unholy alliance if both the political parties fight electoral battle in Assam on a common platform. Badruddin Azmal has not given any political support to the illegal migrants that entered India after March, 1971. Time and again he has spoken that the party respect the Assam Accord. It will be unjust to term AUDF as a political party of illegal migrants of Assam. But the fact remains that AGP is without any true and capable political leadership except the former Chief Minister of Assam Prafulla Kumar Mahanta but at present the status of Prafulla Kumar Mahanta in the party is not strong and any alliance with AGP will be fruitless from electoral point of view unless the AGP is revitalized by allowing Prafulla Kumar Mahanta to take over the presidentship of the party. – Yours etc., Dr Om Prasad Das, Barnachal Road, Bamunimaidam, Guwahati.
