Mobile units to detect cancer in Meghalaya SHILLONG, Dec 27 – The Meghalaya Government would soon sign an agreement with a UK-based charitable trust after which two vans would crisscross Meghalaya to help early detection and diagnosis of cancer.
Health Minister Mukul Sangma said, the State Government will tie up with the MKC Roko Cancer Charitable Trust which would provide two specially-equipped vans – one for the Khasi-Jaintia region and another for the Garo Hills region.
The vans would reach to the villagers and check them free of cost early detection of cancer, particularly breast and cervical, Sangma said. The units would also conduct awareness programmes for making people understand the need for early detection of cancer.
The van and equipment would cost around Rs 1 crore to be borne by the Trust, while the State Government would spend Rs 7.5 lakh per month for expenditure on manpower and other variables. – PTI
