NABARD training on handmade paper

 JORHAT, Dec 1 NABARD conducted a week-long training programme on handmade paper among the willing artisans at Namchungi, Titabar. The potential of this craft to produce decorative objects had led the organizer to equip the artisans with this alternative livelihood option.

Jorhat branch of Bharat Vikas Parishad (BVP) facilitated the programme with financial support from NABARD. 35 local SHG members and artisans took part in the training programme.

Mayur Bora, DDM, NABARD assured the trainees of marketing support in the inaugural function of the training. The inauguration programme was attended by members of Jorhat chapter of BVP Maheswar Das, AK Roy, Rohini Bhattacharyya, Bharat Barua, Jagatjyoti Sarkar, Mridul Doloi and Prakash Thakur. Technical training was imparted by Asifur Rahman, noted expert on handmade paper from Cinnamara, Jorhat. Jatin Pathak, president of Namchungi GP visited the training site on several occasions.

During valedictory programme, several items made from handmade paper like file cover, lamp shade, flower vase and small baskets were displayed, a press release by Mayur Bora, DDM, NABARD, Jorhat stated.
