DKD College alumni body meet CORRESPONDENT DERGAON, Aug 18 – The second triennial session of DKD College Alumni Association formed in September 2002 was held on Saturday.
The programme was started with the laying of foundation stone of drinking watershed by Nagen Mahanta, the seniormost ex-student of the first batch as well as the first general secretary of the college. The shed with an estimated cost of Rs. seventy thousand will be constructed by the association.
This was followed by the open meeting with Bhola Hazarika, the executive president of the Alumni Association as well as the vice-principal of the college in the chair.
Dr Mridul Dutta, the secretary (Finance) explained the objective of the meeting. Through the inaugural speech Dr Sarif Ullah, the principal of the college highlighted the importance of the Alumni Association in the light of NAAC assessment.
Bhola Hazarika, the executive president of the association read out his welcome address through which he highlighted the different activities already completed and to be taken up. Pabitra Mahanta, the outgoing general secretary of the association, read out his secretarial report and the audit report.
The meeting after a detailed discussion accepted the reports. At present a total 1179 general and about 70 life members of the association have been registered.
It is pertinent to mention that the college started in 1962 at Bapuji Mandir has produced thousands of alumni so far. The life member certificate to the members were distributed in the meeting. After a threadbare discussion the meeting passed the work plan of the association. The plan includes a drinking water shed, construction of the main gate, office building and formation of a trust fund.
The new body of the association was formed with Muhibul Haque as president, Bhola Hazarika as executive president, Atul Mahanta and Jiten Khound as vice-presidents, Surendra Nath Borah as the general secretary, Dr Mridul Dutta as secretary (organising), Sanjoy Kr Hazarika as the assistant secretary, Khireswar Loing as the Asstt. Secretary (office), Dr Sarif Ullah, principal as the Treasurer along with six executive members Aditya Thakur, Aswini Borthakur, Rajib Upadhyay, Bichitra Bhusan Kalita, Gobin Baruah and Rajen Pujari while Dr Sarif Ullah, Nagen Mahanta, Renu Devi Chakraborty were proposed as the advisers and Ajit Baruah, Bubul Borah were named as the auditors.
The meeting ended with the vote of thanks offered by Bijit Ranjan Saikia.
