NGO celebrates Save the Frog Day

 GUWAHATI, April 29 – Voluntary organisation Help Earth organised a day-long programme in connection with the Save the Frog Day, in association with the South Point School Environmental Club on Tuesday at the Lakhiram Barua Sadan here.

The programme was aimed at generating awareness among the people, particularly among the students on the ecological importance of frogs, said Jayadittya Purkayastha, general secretary of the voluntary organisation.

On the occasion, a photo exhibition was also organised highlighting the frog diversity of the NE region, the role of the amphibian species in controlling pest and in curing several life-threatening diseases like the AIDS, among others.

A speech competition on the frog-human relations was also organised among the school students and students from various schools of the city took part in it.

Abhijit Das of the voluntary organisation Aranyak and Prashanta Kumar Choudhury of the Don Bosco College of Engineering and Technology made presentations with the help of slides, on frog diversity of the region and the problems associated with their conservation. Students actively took part in the interaction with the experts following the slide shows, said Purkayastha.
