Colouring life
True to its mission ‘colour your life!’, the
Guwahati-based indoor amusement centre RangGhar added some colours to the inmates of Ashalaya that shelters the unfortunate girl child on an apt day meant for children — the Children’s Day. The Ashalaya inmates spent some playful moments at the amusement centre, promoted by Down Town Enterprises Ltd and housed at Dee Tee Towers on GS Road, on November 14 as part of its first anniversary celebrations that continued for three days. While they had fun sharing and airing their views on FM radio channel Big 92.7 FM that specifically came to RangGhar for the event, Assamese film actress Chandana Sarma was there to entertain them as the underprivileged children cut a huge cake with stars in their eyes and smiles on their lips.
Then followed the competitions among school and college students beginning with an inter-college quiz and a mehandi and rangoli competition later. In the evening, there was a special magic show by Dhan Sharma and a ghazal performance by Prem Sagar. The three-day extravaganza also had an array of activities for the children including a school quiz, brides and groom competition, painting competition, etc besides performances by various dance troupes and a comedy show by acclaimed Assamese group Hi Huku. Make-up merit
It was an event with a difference that
tested the make-up and hairstyle presentation skills of contestants in the world of glitz and fashion. On November 17 at the Sankaradeva Kalakshetra auditorium, all the 27 contestants came up with innovative styles and ideas in the Signature Awards 2008 to captivate the judges and audience alike in two rounds — traditional and fantasy — but at the end of it, Mitali Gogoi, Monalisa Gogoi and Maya Dey walked away with the top three prizes in respective order. The judges were Bollywood hair designer Lata Khanchandni, Sanjeev Nayar, actress Akashitora, writer Monalisa Saikia and costume designer Mayuri Barua.
The awards show, organized annually by Guwahati’s leading beauty care establishment Signature Training Centre, was punctuated with different cultural items and two special exhibition rounds by Lata Khanchandni and Madhumita Saikia, who is a name to reckon with in the beauty industry of Assam and also the director of the Signature Training Centre that craves for creating a platform for the aspiring beauty consultants of the region.
The winners were given air tickets to Kolkata, gift hampers besides free annual subscription of magazines Style Speaks, Saparibar and Soundarya Aru Swasthya. The winners will also get a chance to participate and showcase their skills at a national event in New Delhi and then at an international event in Bangkok, Thailand.
