
| A talented actor Deutar Paduli Uduli Muduli, presented by mobile group Theatre Bhagyadevi this season, has gained immense popularity. A major character in the play is enacted by Rajkumar, a talented actor who has a number of remarkable performances to his credit. A black-belt degree holder in kung-fu and an expert modern and Satriya dancer, he has also creditably performed in the troupe’s two other plays Phool Toi Nufulo Kiyo and Pach Poisar Prithivi as a romantic lover and action-hero. He began appearing on stages since his childhood and came to focus with his portrayal a romantic hero in NK Production’s 1994 video film Anjana directed by Rajesh Bhuyan. Rajkumar has successfully portrayed various roles in more than 35 video films. His hits include Hasina, Jonaki Mon, Bogitora, Abhimani Mon. |
| Books on heritage Recently two books titled Punyabhumi Asom and Oitihasik Tezpur, written by Navajyoti Dev Choudhury reached my hand. Both the books are on cultural heritage of Assam. Punyabhumi Asom extensively deals with the monuments, temples, Vaishnavite Satras, mosques, dargahs and churches of Assam, while Oitihasik Tezpur carries the historical background of Tezpur in an elaborate way with a focus on the present day city. The writer has painstakingly undertaken the spot studies to gather information for the last eight years. The books with a number of photographs can be of immense help for students and researchers alike.A computer hardware engineer and graphic designer by profession, Dev Choudhury has done a commendable job by writing these two books on cultural heritage of Assam. Incidentally, he also has a few books to his credit like Navadip Majuli, Sandhiyar Sadhu, Sadhur Kuki, etc. Presently he is busy writing a book titled Asomiya Jiwoni Kosh. |
| Video film Morom After the success of Aaimoni and Moinajan, Maina Cooperative Society has come out with its next video venture titled Morom. The story, script and dialogue of the dance, music and action-oriented film is written by Mridul Kumar Bora. Jodumoni Dutta, a reputed video filmmaker has directed the film. The music is provided by upcoming music director Palash Gogoi. A specially composed Bihu number has been scored by Jayanta Sonowal and rendered by Zubeen Garg. Other playback singers are Dikshu, Chayanika Bhuyan and Jubilee Gogoi. Jiten Boro has handled the camera while choreography is done by Jini Moholia and Saratbapi Saikia. Nayan Nilim and Aaimee Barua are enacting leading romantic roles supported by Arun Hazarika, Jodumoni Dutta, child artiste Parinandhi Jimasultana and others. Morom is awaiting an early release. |
| Tribute to Indukalpa Glowing tributes were paid to cinematographer-filmmaker Indukalpa Hazarika on his first death anniversary at a function on November 7 at the studio floor of Jyoti Chitraban, where Hazarika spent most of his time. The interesting aspect of the function was presentation of songs from his films, like Manab Aru Danab and Niyoti by Dwipen Barua, Apurba Kumar Das, Malabika Bora, Samar Hazarika, Sandhya Menon, JP Das, Queen Das and Papu Gohain. The singers recalled their association with Hazarika as a keen lover of Assamese music. Earlier, Kahilipara Mahila Samiti presented Dihanam. Speakers including veteran actor Dinesh Das, Birinchi Kumar Bhattacharya, director Dara Ahmed, Ram Goswami and others dwelt at length on the manifold qualities of Hazarika. A souvenir brought out on the occasion was released by Eli Ahmed. The function was compered by cine-journalist Arunlochan Das and actress Akashitora. Abha Hazarika, the celebrated actress wife of late Hazarika tearfully offered vote of thanks. |
| Mon Dilu Tomak An audio CD of modern Assamese songs titled Mon Dilu Tomak was released at a solemn function at Guwahati Press Club recently. Dholor Ojah Somnath Bora and singer-musician Anupam Saikia jointly released the CD, a venture of Bul Saikia and Manjit Borthakur. Starting his music career as a guitarist, Bul Saikia later switched on to singing as well, and in 1992, his solo cassette of Bihu songs was released. Recorded at Temptation Studio, Guwahati, Mon Dilu Tomak has music by Anupam Saikia. |
