Album Monomohini
Now here’s an album which is a first of its kind. The audio CD, titled Monomohini, contains ten songs in Sanskrit language. Eight of the songs are translated from the Assamese compositions of legendary figures like Srimanta Sankardev, Lakshminath Bezbaruah, Jyotiprasad Agarwala, Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Bhupen Hazarika etc. It is heartening to note that the novel endeavour has been made by Ranjan Bezbaruah, who has translated and rendered them attractively. Two of the songs are also written and sung by him. Bezbaruah deserves praise for making an effort to bring forward memorable Assamese compositions to world wide listeners and lovers of Sanskrit. The songs include Sankardev’s Suno Suno Re Suno Boiri Pramana, Bezbaruah’s Sakhi Hey, Jyotiprasad’s Morey Jivanorey Sakha, Rabha’s Bishware Chande Chande, Bhupen Hazarika’s Dola Hey Dola etc. The co-singers in the CD are Tulika Devi and Shamim Rahman Sultan. The CD is produced by the singer Bezbaruah under the banner of Mayukhi Communication.

Suranjana enthrals
Suranjana Sarma, a talented Bharat Natyam dancer, recently enthralled the audience with her performance held at the Sankaradeva Kalakshetra. Her performance included four aspects of Bharat Natyam – Kautavam, Varnam, Padom and Tillana. She proved her expertise in all the four dances. Special mention may be made of Padam, suitably presented with a Padavali composition of Joydev and Purandardas and attractive expressions. She was also near perfect in the other three aspects of the dance. Suranjana has had training in Bharat Natyam since the age of five under guru Indira PP Bora and had her Arangetram at the age of 15. Hailing from Guwahati, she is presently residing outside the State with her husband and has performed at various places of the country and earned applause. Incidentally, she is also teaching Bharat Natyam at a dance institute of the Army cantonment in Ludhiana. Her programme at Kalakshetra was inaugurated by Nrittacharya Jatin Goswami.
