Samson’s Karbi album An album of Karbi songs titled Ruve Apunsir Ajo (in the fine particles of rain) and sung by reputed singer Samson Ingty reached my hand the other day. Most of the eight songs are based on folktunes and devotional songs of the Karbis. The songs are written and tuned by Dharmaswar Ingty, a poet of repute in the field of Assamese literature, and known as Balimahir Kabi for his book of poetry titled Balimahi. His other poetry books in Assamese include Swapnil Jonak, Silbhetar Sipare Kachijonar Borosun. Ingty is a popular composer and lyricist in Karbi. The singer of the album Samson Ingty has carved a niche with his music albums in Karbi, Assamese and Hindi. The album is likely to be popular among listeners of Karbi songs.
Tuhin: A promising singer-composer It was a pleasant surprise for me to listen to an album – Aditi, containing eight Assamese modern songs sung by upcoming talent Tuhin Sarma. Interestingly, a few songs are well-written and tuned by the singer. The three other songs include lyrics by Arup Barthakur, Balen Hazarika and Nirmalprabha Bordoloi, with tunes by JP Das, Rituparna Sarma and Jayanta Hazarika respectively. The meaningful lyrics, put to befitting melodious tunes in Tuhin’s baritone, have made the album attractive and worth-listening to. It can be said here that Tuhin’s talent is hereditary, as Tuhin is the only son of well-known Rituparna Sarma – who met a premature death – and grandson of legendary Dilip Sarma and Sudakshina Sarma. Incidentally, the album is dedicated to Tuhin’s father, mother and grandfather. The album was released by Jnanpeeth awardee Mamoni Raisom Goswami at a function held at the Guwahati Press Club on March 24. The function was attended and addressed by Sudakshina Sarma, Dr Karunasagar Das, Samar Hazarika, JP Das, Apurba Kumar Das, Manas Rabin, Charu Gohain, Rishiraj Sarma and Manik Lahaty of Suhag Electronics, among others, who were all praise for the singer. The function was compered by Bidyut Kumar Bhuyan.
Saxaphone album An audio album of saxaphone played by Dr Jogiswar Goswami and titled Journey was released by flautist-composer Prabhat Sarma at a function in Guwahati in the presence of Torali Sarma, Dipak Sarma and others. This maiden album of Dr Jogi creates a harmony of the saxaphone with the rare wind instruments in suprano and the altosax. The album features some Assamese hits as also a composition of his own to suit the listener’s mood at all times. The numbers also give the listeners a taste of jazz and blues. Dr Jogi, a doctor by profession and musician by passion, has travelled all over the country and to places like Beijing, Shanghai, etc in musical pursuits. Journey is expected to be a priceless companion for connoisseurs.
