Boomerang bash
Past pupils of South Point School, Guwahati went rocking at the Boomerang, the alumni meet that hosted two of the school’s own bands — Revelation and Ozone — while city-based M-Sonic that has been making waves at national level of late and the Kolkata band Crystal Grass were the guest performers. Boomerang was part of the golden jubilee celebration of the school.

Revelation churned out some hard metal stuff led by Rahul, a Class XII student, while Ozone led by Abhijoy, a Class X student belted out some classic rock numbers like Hotel Calfornia, Knocking on the Heaven’s door, Summer of 69, along with their own compositions Hard rock and I hope it’s me. Arunima, a past pupil rendered Celine Dion’s all time hit love song Every night in my dream and Shakira’s foot tapping number Whenever, wherever to make the audience groove.

M-Sonic led by their frontman Mayank straightway went into top gear with some latest Bollywood stuff as well as numbers from Hindi albums. The audience was on its feet when they performed AR Rahman’s Maa tujhe salam.

Then came Crystal Grass with their screaming guitars and thumping drum. The band led by Rohit and Tania belted out pop, funk and rock numbers one after another as the old and young alike in the audience got on their feet dancing to the music and singing along even as colourful fireworks lit up the sky.

Nano luck
THE International Guwahati Trade Fair (IGTF) is a platform for our people to foster and cement brotherly ties with the people of Northeast India. It’s not just a trade fair but much more than that. The IGTF has made the Thailand entrepreneurs, nay the people of Thailand as a whole, aware about the close relationship between the people of Thailand and the people of Northeast India about their links dating back to over 1,000 years.

The people, the food, and everything they find so familiar in the Northeast, unlike in other parts of the country, that they now consider Guwahati, unknown to them a decade ago, as a place of their own. This was the view expressed by Commercial Counseller, Royal Thai Embassy, New Delhi, Tharadol Thongruang in Guwahati the other day while unveiling their plans to showcase ‘Amazing Thailand’ at the 17th IGTF at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre at Betkuchi, Guwahati from January 29. The Thai participation in the fair would be unprecedented and a whole range of exciting packages await the visitors.

What’s more, there will be a Nano car that would be awarded to the winner following draw of lots of the entry tickets to the trade fair. Good luck to you all.

Global school
Guwahati is among the 100 fastest growing cities of the world, and is the fifth fastest growing among the Indian cities. It is also a major commercial and educational centre of eastern India and is home to world class institutions such as the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati.

And adding to the list of some standard educational institutions in the city, here comes an international school — The Cambridge School (TCS) that will provide the students of the region the gateway to global education right in their courtyard.

After its grand success in Kolkata, TCS Guwahati will begin session in April this year and it will offer ‘A’ and ‘O’ level qualifications — directly from the University of Cambridge, UK — that are accepted by IIT, JEE and Indian universities. The Cambridge levels also enable students to study in the US and the UK after class XII.

Says Pulak Bhattacharya, principal, TCS Guwahati: “Education at TCSG is intended to develop among the students a global outlook while maintaining their respect for their homeland.”
