Resentment over suspension of BJP leaders in Hailakandi
From Our Correspondent
HAILAKANDI, Jan 22 – The suspension of four BJP leaders in Hailakandi district just when Assembly polls are a few months away, has caused much resentment among the party workers. State general secretary of Pradesh BJP, Harekrishna Bharali has issued the suspension letter to these four leaders.
Informing this, the BJP’s Hailakandi district president Nepal Chakraborty today said that they have been suspended for their prolonged anti-party activities here. The suspended leaders are former district president and lawyer Ujjal Kumar Das, former Yuva Morcha president Manindra Debnath and Biplab Purkayastha and Lala block mondal president of BJP Hemendra Chakrabarty.
Nepal Chakraborty said, “they have violated the rules of the party constitution and constituted a parallel district committee in a meeting at Lala town, near Hailakandi on December 24 last with Manindra Debnath as president despite the existence of present committee. “It is a clear example of anti-party activity.” Chakraborty alleged that during the last Assembly and Lok Sabha poll, these leaders ‘opposed the candidates of the party and supported independent candidates”. He informed that these leaders publicly opposed the district leadership and instigating the young members in the party against them. “It is weakening the base of the party in the district,” he added.
When contacted, one of the suspended leaders, Ujjal Kumar Das said that they are in the dark about the suspension and have not received the letters from the party. He said, “If they (BJP) suspend us on the ground of anti-party activity, then the very existence of the party will be in question before the election.”
He further said that if they are really suspended, then it will be one-sided decision because they have not been given opportunity to place their comments.
