
| The year’s second film The shooting of the year’s second film, Jibon Bator Logori, produced under the banner of Hills Motion Pictures, Diphu began on February 12 following its muhurat at the Coffee House of Cotton College, Guwahati. The story, screenplay and direction is by Timothy Das Hanse, who had earlier made a remarkable film, Ronga Modar.At the muhurat, lamps were lighted by Nipon Goswami, Beauty Barua, Atul Pachani, Dinesh Das and Dr Satyendra Kumar Chowdhury. Indra Bania broke the coconut, while Dr P Deka switched on the camera and Biman Barua gave the clapstick. Kapil Bora, Hiranya Deka and Bengali film actress Suchanda Chandra appeared in the muhurat shot. The cast of the film also includes Nipon Goswami, Bishnu Khargharia, Malaya Goswami, Beauty Barua, Asha Bordoloi, Ananya Pachani, Shyamantika Sarma and Parineeta Barthakur. The shooting would be completed by March 4 and the film is expected to be released by April 10 next, the director said. The cinematography is done by Sivanan Barua, assisted by Pradip Sengupta. The lyrics have been penned and tuned by Hanse and Biman Barua, while Zubeen Garg, Alaka Yagnik and Subasana Dutta are the singers. Arup Dutta has arranged the music. Pankaj Ingty and Jeet Khan are in charge of choreography. |
| Kathak Yatra The classical dance lovers of Guwahati had a rare opportunity to witness a three-day programme of Kathak dance, during February 2-4 at Pragjyoti, Machkhowa. The programme was organised by Kathak Kendra, New Delhi in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs, Assam under the title of ‘Kathak Yatra’. Prominent dancers of national fame, along with local reputed dancers, enthralled the packed gathering on all the days. The dancers included Mahendra Panihar, Gitanjali Lal, Eshani Agarwal, Afsar Mulla, Shailia Nalwade, Namrata Pamnani, Vidha Lal, Rajendra Kumar Gangani (all from Delhi), Surindar Saikia (Lucknow), Marami Medhi and Ruparani Das Bora (Assam). |
| A classical evening Alaap, a pleasant musical evening was held on February 15 at Anita Sarma’s dance institute, New Guwahati. The programme began with a bhajan by Srishti Brahma Boro, followed by a group violin recital by juniors, composed by internationally acclaimed violinist Manoj Barua and assisted by Purabi Sarma, who had also trained the students. Rosy Brahma Boro creditably performed kheyal, Raagpradhan and ghazal, ably assisted by Nitul Krishna Goswami on tabla and Pankaj Sarma on harmonium.The highlight of the evening was an orchestral presentation of violin performance, presented by ‘Wave’, a musical group headed by Manoj Barua. The participants were Purabi Sarma, Gitika Barua, Bipul Lahkar, Indrajit Sarma, Raju Das and Dipanwita Sarma, while Ajay Rajkhowa accompanied on the tabla. Srutimala Duara was the compere for the evening. |
| Little Star on DD Little Star, a TV serial in English, presented by Kadambari Creations of Guwahati, is being telecast on NE programme (PPC) of Guwahati DD from January 21, every Wednesday at 4.30 pm. The serial depicts talented school children performing songs, dances and acting, irrespective of language and culture. Little Star is directed and produced by Pramod Das. The serial is anchored by Susmita Bezbaruah. |
| Chahat ready A new Hindi audio album featuring Zubeen Garg, KK and Mumbai-based Assamese singer Samson is ready for an all-India release soon. Billed Chahat, the album is produced by three culture-loving youths from Morajhar, Hojai, under the banner of Hum Entertainment, Mumbai. Chahat has music by Pranjal Bora, with lyrics by Murtaza Ahmed. Simultaneously, a video of the songs, directed by Abhijit Bhatacharya, will also hit the market. |
| Footpathar Pora Here comes an offbeat audio album of Assamese poetry that has been decorated with soothing music. Titled Footpathar Pora, this Chandrawali Production presentation has been conceived and directed by Deep Kakati, who is a familiar voice as far as Assamese poetry recitation goes. It features some select poems of Jyotiprasad Agarwala, Ram Gogoi, Keshav Mahanta, Hiren Bhattacharya, Nilim Kumar, Ranjit Gogoi, Jeet, Shekhar, Manorama Borgohain and Dibru Mahanta. Assisting Deep in recitation are Rajashree Baruah, Sukumar Chetia and child artiste Abhilash Borthakur, while Aditi Barua, Minakshi Barua and Subrata Khaund provide vocal accompaniment. |
