Srimanta Sankardev
 Paran Barbarooah, producer of Surjya Hazarika and Paran Barbarooah during the editing of Srimanta SankardevAssamese feature film Srimanta Sankardev, informs from Chennai that the film’s print is being readied at the Prasad Laboratory there. The film is likely to be censored by December 31 in Guwahati, and is set for release in March, 2010, when the Assamese film industry completes 75 years. The two-and-a-half-hour film on the life of the great Vaishnavite saint is directed by Surjya Hazarika under the banner of SH Educational Trust. The music is by Prabhat Sarma. A Borgeet is rendered by Dr Bhupen Hazarika. Samik Talukdar is the cinematographer of the film. Incidentally, barring Malaya Goswami, all other faces are new. They have done justice to their roles, according to the producer and director.
 
Jonak Bohagar
 The recently released Bihu-based video Jonak Bohagar is woven around a tender love story that has been enlivened by the powerful acting of Bishnu Khargharia. With hit songs Halodhiya charaiye bao dhan khai and Ribrib phaguni malaya by Zubeen Garg, the video also features a song by actor Nayan Nilim. Produced by Budda and Deva under the banner of JJ Electronics Presentation , it has been directed by Achinta Kumar Dev, with story and music by Dipanka Saikia. The cast also includes Hemanga Raichoudhury, Swagat Dhiraj, Sujata, Lakshmipriya, Namita, Abhijit, Ratul Saikia and Bharat Bora, among others. The other singers are Dikshu, Bornali Kalita, Jinti and Subasana.
 
Satriya recital
 Upcoming danseuse Mridusmita Das enthralled the audience at Lalchowk, Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, during the recently concluded India International Trade Fair, with a graceful Satriya recital. Her dance performance was part of the Assam Day being celebrated at the trade fair. The cultural evening was attended, among others by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, and Industry Minister Pradyut Bordoloi.

Beginning her recital with a short vandana, Mridusmita presented a dance item that eulogised Lord Rama. With music composition by Murari Mohan Sarma, the dance item was choreographed by her mentor Ramkrishna Talukdar, beautifully depicting the various episodes of Rama’s glorious life. A student of Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi, Mridusmita perfectly brought to life Rama’s marriage to Sita, abduction of Sita, Rama’s Lanka mission, killing of Ravana, etc, with her graceful movements that kept the audience mesmerised.

The Assam Day also saw Dipak Sarma creating mellifluous tunes on the flute, a musical show by the Assam Breeze Band, presentation of various folk songs and dances, including Goalpariya Lokageet and Bihu. (Inputs by Sarangapani Goswami).
 
Anjumoni 2010
 Popular actor Ravi Sarma impresses in this entertaining video film by Dipak Roy. The Bihu-based video Anjumoni 2010 revolves round a village boy Ravi, who aspires to be a civil service officer. So, he comes to the city to prepare for the competitive exams to achieve his goal, and at the same time, he is loyal ro his cultural roots and true to his love for Junuka back home. Junuka in the title role is a revelation, while others in the cast – Bhargav Kataky, Hiranya Deka, Hema Sarma, Suhani, Chetana Das infuse life into the script. The singers are Zubeen Garg, Tilak Newar, Bornali Kalita, Subasana Dutta and Chayanika, with music scored by Biman Barua.
 
Dance reality show
 After some successful dance workshops at various places of Assam over the last two months for the forthcoming television reality show Dancing Star Ki Khoj, produced by Maa Kamakhya Multitrade Pvt Ltd, the makers are now planning to hold selection camps from January 2, 2010. Beginning from Guwahati, these camps will be held in all the district headquarters of the State. To be telecast via a popular satellite television channel of Assam, Dancing Star Ki Khoj has choreographers Kamal Nath and Masoom Sheikh from Mumbai and Assam’s Ashim Baishya as dance gurus.
