Jibon Bator Logori passed by Censors
 Jibon Bator A still from Jiban Bator LogoriLogori, an Assamese feature film directed by Timothi Das Hanse under the banner of Hills Motion Picture Association of Diphu, was recently passed by the Censor Board. The film is scheduled to be released in early winter next. The story, script and dialogue of the family-oriented film has been penned by the director, with the backdrop of the present day social conflict. Replete with commercial ingredients like songs and dances, the film carries a relevant message. Incidentally, a three-minute trailer of the 118-minute film has also been made for publicity. Out of the six prints, one is subtitled in English. To attract cinegoers in remote areas, the producers have also planned to exhibit the film with mobile units. The producers are Phukan Konwar, Purnananda Gogoi and Beauty Barua. Shivanan Barua has handled the camera in 35mm cinemascope. The musical score has been jointly done by Hanse, Biman Barua and Arup Dutta. The cast includes a good number of popular artistes.
 
Kumar Sanjivor Abuj Mon
 Kumar Sanjivor Abuj Mon is the title of a video album produced by Abdul Gaffar under the banner of Bajrangvali Audio Video Films. The video album of romantic songs carries a number of melodies, tuned and recorded by singer Kumar Sanjiv. The album is directed by Sonal, Mridupaban and Rhythm. The songs are written by Bubuda, Manin Barua, Vicky, Deb and Gautam Hazarika. Umesh Nath and Manin Barua have directed the music, based on traditional and western music. The artistes in the album are Aampi, Mumtaz, Subhas, Abhi, Jeet, Diganta Barua and Kumar Sanjiv. Incidentally, Kumar Sanjiv has earned a reputation for himself through his audio cassettes like Amar Silpi, Prem, Kon Gaonre Tumi Rupahi, etc. The album is priced at Rs 15 only.
 
Play about child marriage
 Dora Koina Khelo Aha, a play about child marriage and its impact is going to be staged by Ashirbad Theatre of producer-actor Rabin Neog. Incidentally, last year also, the mobile theatre troupe presented a children’s drama Ma Deuta Aru Maina, which was highly acclaimed by the viewers. The two major roles in the present drama will be played by child artistes Maina and Rupak. An important character will be portrayed by popular actor Raag Oinitam, supported by comedian Haren Malakar, newcomers Sudarshana, Nisha, Puja and others. A major role will be enacted by Rabin Neog. Another important play of Ashirbad Theatre for the current session is Khong –Ejak Dhumuhar Naam, written and directed by Abhijit Bhattacharya. The rehearsal is going on in full swing at the troupe’s rehearsal premises at Sonapur.
 
Padmanav in UK
 An exclusive musical evening featuring Padmanav Bordoloi, Indian Idol and Icon of Assam 2007 will be held at the prestigious Nehru Centre, the cultural wing of the Indian High Commission in London on August 25. The event, organised by Rini Kakati, NRI coordinator for UK, will also take place in other places in the metropolis.

A student of civil engineering (Dwarka Das J Sanghvi college, Mumbai), Padmanav learnt classical music during his school days from Guru Jiten Basumatary. The first Assamese boy to represent India’s biggest musical reality show Indian Idol 3 in 2007, he was among the top 12 contestants among thousands from all over India. He was highly appreciated by judges like Javed Akhtar, Udit Narayan, Anu Malik and Alisha Chinoy.

He was awarded the Assamese Lifetime Achievement Award by the Jeewan Lal Mungi Goenka Charitable Trust award for his excellent performance in Indian Idol 3 and making Assam proud.
 
Musical evening
 A grand musical evening was Anirbaan Das (with harmonium) in concertorganised by the Centre for Officers of Petroleum Sector (COPS), Guwahati, sponsored by OIL, as a part of the celebration of OIL’s golden jubilee at Narangi Club on Sunday. The main attraction of the evening was a ghazal recital by the internationally renowned singer Anirban Das. Anirban kept the audience spellbound with his melodious ghazals for more than two hours. The musical evening started with a chorus by the ladies wing of the COPS. The other items included sitar recital by Tribeni Sarma and folk song by Mira Dutta. The musical evening was conducted by NC Baishya, former director of OIL.
